Alumni Citation for Academic Excellence Award Recipient 2009

Dr. Floyd C. Knoop '66

Dr. Floyd Knoop ’66 has had a distinguished career in teaching and research spanning more than 30 years. Since arriving at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha in 1975, Dr. Knoop has focused his teaching and research efforts in medical microbiology and immunology. He majored in biology at Defiance College, graduating in 1966. He earned a Master of Science degree in microbiology from the University of Dayton in 1969 and a Ph.D. in medical microbiology from the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 1974. Dr. Knoop was named full professor in 1992 and became Component I director in 1996. He and his wife, Pamela, are the parents of a daughter, Tiffany.

Purpose
Award recipients should be outstanding alumni who have contributed in significant ways to the world of scholarship and/or teaching during the years since their graduation from Defiance College.

Criteria
Nominees must be alumni of Defiance College. Award hopefuls must have made substantial contributions to the world of academia, either through service (such as teaching) or through scholarship (published articles or books, completed research projects, presented lectures, etc.).

Eligibility
Alumni of Defiance College must be living at the time of selection and be present on campus to receive the award. Alumni who are current employees of Defiance College are eligible for nomination while current members of the Executive Board of the Alumni Association are not.
